Stop Ghosting Yourself: Why Storytelling is the Key to Selling (and How to Do It Right)

Listen up, buttercup. If you disappeared from social today and no one even noticed—you don’t have a business problem. You have a visibility problem.
Because here’s the truth: People don’t buy from brands they forget.
Your audience isn’t scrolling through their feed thinking, “Gosh, I wonder what she’s up to today.” They’re drowning in content, distractions, and 50 other businesses fighting for their attention. If you’re not showing up, telling stories, and making them FEEL something—you’re just noise.
And noise doesn’t convert.
1. SHOW UP LIKE SOMEONE WORTH FOLLOWING
Your brand isn’t just what you sell—it’s how you make people feel. And no one’s feeling anything if you’re hiding behind generic “tips and tricks” posts with zero personality.
Instead of this:
❌ “5 ways to grow your Instagram”
❌ “How to write a better caption”
Try this:
✅ “I used to post every day and hear crickets—here’s what finally made people stop scrolling and BUY.”
✅ “Here’s the messy truth about why my first 10 launches flopped (and what I changed).”
See the difference? One sounds like every other marketing post. The other pulls people in with a story—YOUR story.
2. OWN YOU NARRATIVE
I’ll say it louder for the ones in the back: Your experiences, your failures, your wins—that’s what makes your brand stand out. If you’re not telling your story, you’re blending in with every other coach, creative, or business owner.
Here’s an example: Let’s say you help people with fitness. Instead of “10 reasons to strength train,” tell them about the first time you picked up a barbell and felt like a badass. Instead of “eat more protein,” share the moment you realized you were under-fueling for years.
People don’t remember facts. They remember feelings. And feelings come from storytelling.
3. DITCH THE 'SAFE' CONTENT
You know what’s forgettable? Playing it safe. Watering down your opinions. Posting the same old “value-packed” content everyone else is posting.
Want to stand out? Get bold. Have a take. Say the thing your industry is afraid to say.
💡 Are you a copywriter? Stop telling people to “write better captions” and start calling out the mistakes killing their engagement.
💡 Are you in wellness? Say what actually worked for YOU instead of regurgitating every guru’s advice.
💡 Are you in sales? Share a story about the worst pitch you ever gave—and what you learned from it.
The goal isn’t to please everyone. The goal is to attract the right people by being unapologetically YOU.
4. BE CONSISTENT - EVEN WHEN NO ONE IS CLAPPING
You ever notice how people only start showing up when they need to sell something? That’s the problem. If you only talk to your audience when you’re launching, you’re basically that friend who only calls when they need a favor.
You wouldn’t trust someone like that. Your audience doesn’t either.
Consistency isn’t about posting every day. It’s about showing up regularly so people see you as a reliable, trustworthy voice. If you want to make an impact (and money), you have to put in the reps.
5. BUILD TRUST FIRST, CONVERT SECOND
Here’s where most people mess up: They focus on selling before they’ve built trust. But trust is what makes people buy.
Think about it—who are YOU more likely to buy from?
👉 Some faceless brand posting “10 ways to level up”?
👉 Or a real human sharing their struggles, wins, and process—and showing YOU how to do the same?
Your audience isn’t just looking for information. They’re looking for connection. And connection happens when you stop ghosting yourself and start showing up like the brand they can’t ignore.
